FRENECTOMY
A frenectomy is a small surgical procedure for the removal or shortening of a frenum.
It is often performed in those cases where the patient have an extensive insertion of
the labial or lingual frenulum, which gives the patient limitation of speech and eating
problems, as well as orthodontic limitations.
Your dentist will be starting your treatment with a complete oral and radiographic evaluation.
Then, your oral surgeon will numb the surgical area using local anesthetic to avoid
any discomfort during the procedure. After this, an incision is done to remove the
fibrous tissue of the frenulum, then he will reposition the frenulum in a correct
position with the help of some stitches.
After your procedure, your dentist will give you after care instructions and a
prescription with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain killers. After a
couple weeks you should return for a post-surgical appointment for a checkup and to
have your stitches removed
A frenectomy may be recommended by your dentist if you are experiencing certain
