ORAL EXOSTOSIS
REMOVAL

Exostosis is the benign overgrowth of bone in the oral ridge, it is normally a painless
affection and its often caused due to heavy use of the jaw, such as grinding and
clenching your teeth.  To remove such bone overgrowth, a small surgical procedure is
required in which your oral surgeon will access directly to the bone and will remove it.

Your dentist will be starting your treatment with a complete oral and radiographic
evaluation, then he will take a CT Scan to determinate the surgery approach.

First, your oral surgeon will numb the surgical areas using local anesthetic to
avoid any discomfort during the procedure. Then, an incision is done to access the bone
ridge.  With special instruments he will remove the excessive bone structure and
after this, stitches are going to be place to allow a proper healing of the soft tissues.

After your procedure, your dentist will give you after care instructions and a
prescription with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and pain killers. After a
couple weeks you should return for a post-surgical appointment for a checkup and to
have your stitches removed.

If you notice an overgrowth of bone in your jaws and feel uncomfortable with it you can
have it removed by a specialist.
